Wheels, Rides & the Road Down Here
The nearest airport is Liberia International (LIR), about 50–80 minutes from Potrero depending on traffic. You'll want a car for most of your stay, and a 4x4 is strongly recommended during rainy season (May–November). GPS works, but don't blindly follow it onto dirt roads.
Johnny Naranjo
We've used Johnny ourselves — trustworthy, reliable, and he knows every back road in Guanacaste. Large van shuttle seats about 8 with luggage, available for airport transfers and regional day trips. Book him in advance December through April.
Ask him about the La Leona Waterfall trip — it's the real deal, not a tourist-bus excursion.

Directions from the condo

Directions from the condo
Playa Brasilito

Directions from the condo
Playa Conchal
15 minOne of the most striking beaches in the country, with a shore made of crushed shells instead of sand and water that turns almost unreal shades of turquoise. Bring a snorkel, because the clear, calm water is made for it.
Directions from the condo
Playa Grande

Directions from the condo
Playa Penca
10–15 minA quiet, protected cove tucked just north of Flamingo, with calm turquoise water and soft golden sand. It's one of the best swimming and snorkeling spots in the area, and even on a good day you'll often have long stretches of it to yourself.

Before You Pack
Tap Water
Safe to drink in Flamingo and Potrero — a rare distinction in Central America. No need to buy bottled water.
Bugs
Bring insect repellent for evening dining. Shake out shoes before putting them on — scorpions occasionally find their way inside. Their sting is uncomfortable but not deadly.
Time Zone
Central Standard Time (CST) year-round. Costa Rica doesn't observe daylight saving — one less thing to think about.
Tipping
10% is the norm. Some restaurants add a service charge automatically — check your bill before adding more.
Download before you arrive. Everyone uses it — businesses, tour operators, restaurants, and your hosts. It's the primary way things get done here.
Navigation
Use Waze or Google Maps but always verify routes. GPS has led people astray on dirt roads. A 4x4 is recommended May–November.
Cash
Carry some. Beach chair rentals, local sodas, and many tour operators are cash-only. ATM available in Flamingo.
Food Safety
Keep all open food sealed or refrigerated. Wildlife theft is not uncommon. Lock your door and secure valuables in your car.
